How does the LIFT-MTB? electric bike motor kit work?

The different stages of the electric motor kit operation

-1- Connect the battery to the electric bike.

  • The battery can be placed on your frame (depending on the space available) or in your backpack, thanks to a cable with quick connector of about 1.30 meters.

    It is connected to the other connector usually placed near the stem.

    This connector is designed to detach in case of a fall (you can disconnect it and store the cable if you decide to make a descent without using the motor as in the picture).

    The connector is designed to withstand approximately 10,000 connections/disconnections.

-2- Turn ON the Mountain Bikes motorization system.

  • Thanks to the ON / OFF button that you have at the handlebar.

    Once the system is switched ON, a light will illuminate to indicate that the system is powered on.

-3- Start riding with the Mountain Bikes electric conversion kit.

  • Once you start to accelerate, the information is transmitted to a small box above or below the engine in which a controller is integrated and sealed with a special resin.

    This controller manages different information such as the amount of current sent to the motor, the management of the remaining battery, the management of possible under and over voltages (over or under voltage cut off), etc.

    Note that this box can be positioned in various ways depending on the architecture of the frame.

-4. The electric bike motor receives information from the controller.

  • The brushed technology motor is above all simple and reliable.

    It has been specifically developed to have a high torque with a very low rotation speed.

    We therefore obtain maximum torque and optimal consumption at a given speed of 80 to 100 rpm pedaling rate.

-5- The Mountain Bikes electric motor drives the pinion.

  • The sprocket, machined in France in our workshop and then heat treated, is mounted on a freewheel, this allows to drive the crankset in one direction (when you use the assistance) but also to have no resistance when you pedal exactly like a classic bike.

-6- The motor sprocket drives the crankset via a chain.

  • A specific crankset is delivered with your kit, equipped with a freewheel on the chainrings in order not to drive the cranks when the Mountain Bikes electric engine is running and you can not pedaling.

    The specific eclectic Mountain Bikes crankset is designed to be mounted in place of your original crankset without changing the bottom bracket.

    Note that: The kit cannot work without the specific mountain bike crankset electric with freewheel, because if the motor turns faster than the crankset it will drive the cranks, forcing the cyclist to follow the speed of the motor, which is very unpleasant and even dangerous in use.

    It will also be too difficult to pedal backwards which can be annoying on some technical passages.

-7- When your electric Mountain Bikes (MTB) battery is running low:

  • The throttel light changes from green to orange, then to red.

    The engine then goes into “safety” mode so that it doesn’t cut out abruptly, allowing you to see it coming and not run out of fuel!

    So once in the red you will have a few km of autonomy left (to be defined according to use) even if the power will be reduced you will still have assistance.

    When you pass this zone, the motor controller (BMS) cuts off the assistance.

    In this case the low weight of the system allows you to return without any consequent discomfort and to ride as with a classic bike, note that contrary to certain competitor the motorization does not have resistance to the pedaling, you will pedal freely even without use of the battery.

-8- You only have to recharge the battery of the mountain bike backpack.

  • Nothing could be easier! As with a cell phone, connect the charger’s charging plug to the battery.

    A red light indicates that it must be charged, a green light will indicate the end of charge.

Is there any pedaling resistance?

The LIFT-MTB electric motor kit is designed to have no resistance when pedaling whether you use the motor or not.

The system is equipped with two freewheels (one on the bottom bracket axle, and the other on the motor output axle), so that if you pedal without using the assistance, there will be no additional pedaling resistance compared to your conventional bike.
